A Tribute to Memphis Soul - Tonight!

I usually don't promote local shows (that's what the Memphis Beat is for) but this seems like a heck of a good time. Here is the offical word from DJ Buck Wilders:

SATURDAY AUGUST 27TH at the HI-TONE

Shangri-La Records presents...A Tribute To Memphis Soul! I've been thinking about about doing a show like this for quite a while. I feel something like this should go on in Memphis at least once a week if not every night. Our purpose is to expose the amazing soul and funk music that was being played and recorded in Memphis in the 60's and 70's. Everything from top 40 hits(Stax, Hi) to the unsung heroes. There will be some heavyweight underground 45's in the house this evening from the collections of the Hook-Up, DJ Leroy, the Memphix cats Redeye Jedi and Chase One, and myself. If you were to total up the years of Memphis collecting between the 5 of us you would have over 30 years of crate digging. I'm sure most of you are aware of the greatness of this music...if not this will be a true history lesson. Come hear what kind of shows were going on in the city at that time you missed out on. This music is the reason I'm glad to call Memphis my home.

Here's the deal....

Only $3.00 for addmission!

SHOW WILL START AT 10:00 I PROMISE!!! Just get there by then.
At 10:00 we will be showing some amazing footage of the Stax/Volt tour in Europe from 1967! (Approx 45 minutes) At 10:45 the records start revolving. During the spinning we will continue to show footage.(Wattstax,etc.) The DJ line-up will change through out the night. (I'm hoping we can all play at least twice.) Records til' 3:00!!!

This is also a "late" release party for the fabulous "BIG MOE LIVE AT RC's PLACE" CD. An awesome compilation of Memphis soul/funk from this era put out by Memphix on the killer "JONES" label that brought you "Chains and Black Exhaust" a few years back. Pick up a copy if you don't already have one.

THIS JUST IN!!!
Scott Bomar...the band leader of Memphis's own BO-KEYS and composer of the Hustle 'n' Flow score will also be on the bill this evening. His Memphis collection alone will be worth coming to hear. Damn, that's awesome!

Unfortunetly, I will have to work tonight from 9pm - 2am. This job of mine is really cutting into my social life.
